It can be assumed that this piece was created as a tribute to African American artist Jacob Lawrence.  Jacob Lawrence, a Harlem artist, is known for his cubist works that reflect the history, struggles, and important periods of African Americans in America. Most of his paintings are dedicated to African American pioneers. Lawrence is best known for his 60 panel work that tells the story of The Great Migration, which tells the story of the African American migration from the rural south to the urban north  Do you see any elements in this piece that portray a migration? Do you see migration as something of beauty and enjoyment or something of tire and dread?
