Made from recycled paper pulp bricks, Louis Hock’s temporary installation, a wall, extends through MCASD Downtown’s Farrell Gallery, interrupting the visual experience of the exhibition on view and disorienting the circulation of the space. Thinking of walls such as those at the San Diego/Tijuana border and the artist’s childhood home of Ambos Nogales (the binational town in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico), this installation urges visitors to experience a familiar space that is now visually and physically divided.

Louis Hock: a wall is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. Institutional support for MCASD is provided by the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture and the County of San Diego Community Enhancement Fund.
