Avant Garde Day Trip: Niki de Saint Phalle

Saturday, Oct 19, 2019
Members Only Event

This day-long outing to Escondido features a trip to visit Niki de Saint Phalle’s Queen Califia’s Magical Circle. Inspired by California’s mythic, historic, and cultural roots, Queen Califia’s Magical Circle is situated within a 12-acre natural habitat in the Iris Sankey Arboretum in Kit Carson Park. The garden consists of nine large-scale sculptures, a circular “snake wall,” and maze entryway. Our group will tour the sculpture garden with Bloum Cardenas, Niki de Saint Phalle’s granddaughter and Trustee of the Niki Charitable Art Foundation. A picnic lunch will be provided, and the group will visit a local artist’s studio on the way home.

This trip is free for Avant Garde Members, and $50 for guests and Members at all levels who might be curious about the Avant Garde experience. Avant Garde is MCASD's special interest group for art enthusiasts in their 30s and 40s.
