This vibrant plant can be located almost anywhere in the Americas with a warm climate. Bougainvillea was discovered by botanist Dr. Philibert Commerçon while on the exploration and circumnavigation of the world led by French admiral Louis Antoine de Bougainville in the late eighteenth century. Today, there are over 300 different variations of the plant as a result of hybrids derived from the original South American species.
