MCASD asks for $12 donations to raise funds over a period of 24 hours

San Diego, CA— On Friday, December 12, 2014, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will launch $12 on 12, a campaign dedicated to raising funds for the Museum’s annual operating fund. This special year-end appeal is directed to the community to raise money to support another year of boundary-pushing exhibitions, as well as art-in-education and public programs at MCASD.

Leading up to the campaign the Museum will populate their social media channels with “behind-the-scenes” ways the community’s donations will directly support the institution. The Museum can be found as “Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego” on Facebook, @MCASD on Twitter, and @MCASanDiego on Instagram.

For interviews or high resolution images of the Museum, please contact Leah Straub or Patricia B. Dwyer.

Contributors to the campaign will be offered a free drink at the Members' Opening of Laugh-in: Art, Comedy, Performance on January 22, 2015 at the Museum’s La Jolla location. Donors will also enjoy a 15% discount at the X Store through the month of January by showing their donation receipt.

MCASD is a leader in world-class exhibitions and programming and consistently offers thoughtful artists talks, curator’s lectures, family art-making activities, exhibitions, and more for the community of San Diego. This year MCASD engaged thousands of students through its arts-in-education program, Extended School Partnership, which empowers 6th-12th grade teachers to use the Museum as an extension of the classroom. The annual Shore Thing series welcomed more than 2,600 visitors this past summer, and turned every Thursday evening into a community gathering with music, cocktails, art, and picnicking amidst MCASD La Jolla’s scenic Edwards Sculpture Garden. The Museum has hosted lectures by notable artists Christo, Jack Whitten, Tacita Dean, and most recently the New-York based architect Annabelle Selldorf.
