San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will host its ninthBiennial Art Auction in La Jolla on Wednesday, April 30 at 6:30 PM. Featuring more than 90 artworks donated by internationally recognized artists and emerging talents, the Art Auction is one of MCASD’s most popular events. The event offers the thrill of a professional live auction as it raises needed funds for the Museum’s curatorial programs.

“The Art Auction is a highly anticipated event—it only occurs every two years and since its inception we have witnessed how it has helped build and strengthen collections in the region. All objects are selected by our curatorial team and reflect this Museum’s interests,” said Hugh Davies, MCASD’s David C. Copley Director and CEO. “We have museum-quality works available for purchase, thanks to the generosity of our exhibiting artists and their galleries. Without their support the auction wouldn’t be possible.”

The artworks will be on exhibition in the galleries at MCASD La Jolla from Saturday, April 19 to Wednesday, April 30, the night of the auction. The evening includes both live and silent auction items presented in a celebratory atmosphere with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres. The silent auction begins promptly at 6:30 PM, and the live auction will begin at 8 PM and will include coffee and desserts. Mariana Gantus Joseph of Christie’s will conduct a live closing of select silent auction works to conclude the evening.

Guests at this year’s auction will be delighted to have exclusive access to special-edition auction paddles created by artist Kelsey Brooks. These limited quantity paddles are available to Gold Circle ticket purchasers, and to general ticket holders should quantities last. Gold Circle ticket holders will also be able to view the works and receive private curatorial tours at the VIP Preview Reception on Tuesday, April 22.

This year MCASD will partner with GiveSmart to offer mobile bidding. Not only will guests at the art auction be invited to bid from their mobile devices, but anyone from any location is invited to place bids on works.

The full list of artworks will be available at www.mcasd.org before the auction.
