San Diego, CA—MCASD is launching its fourth annual 25 and Under Art Contest to celebrate Qualcomm Foundation’s long-standing gift of free admission for Museum visitors ages 25 and younger. Qualcomm Foundation has supported the initiative since 2007 and has helped MCASD serve more than 100,000 visitors age 25 and younger, free of charge.

MCASD is inviting San Diego artists who are age 25 and younger to submit their original artworks for the chance to have their work displayed in a showcase at the Museum and win a $500 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials. Contestants are encouraged to submit images of their artwork online at www.mcasd.org/25andUnderArtContest. Images must be submitted to the contest’s website by 11:59 PM on Friday, May 8. A panel of judges will select 25 finalists, whose work will be displayed at the Museum in a showcase event on Saturday, June 6 from 1-3 PM.

This year's theme is "Our City, Our Time." San Diego is a unique city in the farthest southwest corner of the United States and serves as a gateway to Latin America. Our city is home to a variety of people, cultures, ideas, industries, and of course, the perfect climate. Use the San Diego of today as inspiration to create a contemporary artwork.

The public is invited to cast their vote for their favorite work on the Museum’s Facebook page from May 25-May 29, and in person at the showcase event on Saturday, June 6. Winners will be announced at the end of the showcase once the final votes are tallied, and will be selected in four categories:

  • Curator’s Choice, First Place: $500 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials, a private, curator-led tour of the exhibition of the winner’s choice, and a year-long MCASD X Membership
  • Curator’s Choice, Honorable Mention: $100 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and a year-long e-Membership to MCASD
  • People’s Choice (Facebook and showcase votes), First Place: $100 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and a year-long e- Membership to MCASD
  • People’s Choice (Facebook and showcase votes), Honorable Mention: $100 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials, and a year-long e-Membership to MCASD

The 25 and Under Art Contest is one of the many ways MCASD engages and supports the next generation of artists and art enthusiasts. In addition to the 25 and Under Art Contest, MCASD offers a wide variety of school programs for educators and students, as well as public programs for youth and their families.
