MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO (MCASD) ANNOUNCES DOWNTOWN AT SUNDOWN

Monday, Nov 16, 2015 - 3:46 pm

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will enhance its evening programming in an effort to encourage more opportunities for audiences to engage with the Museum after normal business hours. On Thursday, November 19, the Museum will launch a new monthly after-hours program called Downtown at Sundown. In partnership with local business leaders and the Museum’s culinary neighbors, Downtown at Sundown will provide a sampling of Downtown San Diego’s Core-Columbia district hot spots, along with gallery tours, live performances, and more.

Taking place on the third Thursday of every month from 5-8 PM, Downtown at Sundown will offer free admission, gallery tours of current exhibitions, live performances, music by emerging DJs, and a book club held in the Museum’s readingROOM, as well as plenty of perks from nearby participating partners.

The San Diego State University Downtown Gallery, located one block south of the Museum, will offer guided tours and programming on select evenings; nearby Stone Brewing Company and The Flight Path Bistro & Wine Bar will offer $5 drink and appetizer specials; and beginning in December, a pop-up book truck will be parked on the North Plaza at 1001 Kettner where guests are invited to grab a book and enjoy an al fresco read on outdoor furniture supplied by the Downtown San Diego Partnership.

“Drawing on the summertime success of Shore Thing, the evening series at MCASD La Jolla, we’re enhancing programming at our Downtown location during our popular evening hours each month,” said the Museum’s Deputy Director, Art and Programs, Kathryn Kanjo. “The monthly Sundowners will replace the three annual TNT’s (Thursday Night Thing). We’re grateful for everyone who supported TNT over the years and will look forward to welcoming them on a more regular basis to a lively downtown district.”
