San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is pleased to launch its fifth annual art competition for younger artists. The anticipated “25 and Under Art Contest” celebrates the Museum’s ongoing commitment to young audiences. Since 2007, a grant from Qualcomm Foundation has provided year-round free admission for all visitors ages 25 and under with the aim of making MCASD open and accessible to all of the creative minds of our future. To date, the program has served more than 100,000 visitors age 25 and younger, free of charge.

The theme of this year’s art contest is “home.” MCASD invites San Diego artists, age 25 and younger, to submit their original artworks in any medium inspired by the places they call, or have called, “home.” Aspiring artists are encouraged to visit MCASD’s galleries for inspiration. Currently on view at MCASD Downtown, the exhibition Do Ho Suh explores issues of home, identity, and personal space with fabric sculptures and innovative drawings.

Artworks can be submitted online at www.mcasd.org/2016contest before 11:59 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016. A panel of judges will select the 25 finalists whose work will be displayed at the Museum in the Showcase event from 1-3 PM on Saturday, June 4 at MCASD Downtown. Not only will the winner have their artwork displayed in a special Showcase event at the Museum, they’ll also take home a $500 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials.

The public is invited to cast their vote for their favorite work on the Museum’s Facebook page from May 23-May 27, and in person at the Showcase event on Saturday, June 4. Winners will be announced at the end of the Showcase once the final votes are tallied, and winners will be selected in the following categories:

  • Curator’s Choice, First Place: $500 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials, a private, curator-led tour of the exhibition of the winner’s choice, and a year-long MCASD Membership
