MEDIA ALERT: Event to Honor 2013 Congressional Art Competition Entrants at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) This Thursday

San Diego, CA—On Thursday, May 2 from 5:30-6:30 PM, an event honoring all fourteen entrants from the 52nd District will be held at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD). The event will also celebrate the winner of the contest, whose artwork will be displayed in Washington, D.C. at the nation’s Capitol for the next year. The event will be held in the Strauss Gallery in the Museum’s downtown Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building.

Congressman Scott Peters will be in attendance to announce the winner in his district, as well as some of the members of this year’s judging panel.Panel members include Hugh M. Davies, Derrick Cartwright, Nora Sargent, Gail Knox, and Alessandra Moctezuma.

About the Contest

Each spring, the Congressional Institutesponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol, and the contest winner gets to spend a day with Congressman Peters in D.C.
