Looking for a “shore thing” this summer? Thursday nights just got more interesting. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) today announced it will offer extended summer hours at its La Jolla location, staying open late—until 8 PM—every Thursday evening from June 13 through August 29 (with the exception of July 4).

“We have a beautiful sculpture garden, an amazing collection of contemporary art, and some of the best oceanfront property in all of San Diego,” said Hugh Davies, the Museum’s David C. Copley Director and CEO. “We want people to take advantage of these offerings especially during the summer months, so we’re activating the entire Museum property so people can enjoy this community asset with their friends and family. We hope people see MCASD as their museum.”

Visitors can tour the galleries late into the evening, enjoy cocktails with friends on the oceanfront terrace (cash bar available), and picnic in the Edwards Sculpture Garden. Several food trucks will be parked at the Museum every Thursday evening. Some evenings will also include exhibition tours, bands or DJs, films, artist talks, and hands-on creative workshops. A full listing of dates and activities will be available at www.mcasd.org.

On view throughout the summer will be Approximately Infinite Universe, an exhibition inspired by science fiction and the possibility of alternate realities, featuring work by seventeen emerging and mid-career artists. The exhibition runs from June 8 through September 1, 2013.

The extended hours also provide an opportunity to visit the Museum for people who might not otherwise be able to do so during standard operating hours (11 AM – 5 PM daily, closed Wednesdays).

There is no additional cost to the program outside of standard admission rates: $10 adults; $5 students/seniors; free for MCASD Members, military and their families, and ages 25 and under. The third Thursday evening of every month will continue to be free of charge as part of the Museum’s existing Free Third Thursday Evenings.

Shore Thing event sponsors Include La Jolla Light, KPBS, Stone Brewing Co., SIX ONE NINE Vodka, and Brick & Bell Café.
