Ray’s Work Featured in MCASD’s Current Exhibition, Lifelike

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and The San Diego Museum of Art are pleased to present internationally renowned sculptor Charles Ray as the featured speaker for the 13th annual Axline Lecture on Thursday, May 16 at 7 PM at MCASD La Jolla.  Ray’s work is currently on view at MCASD as part of Lifelike.

Winner Will Receive $500 to Blick Art Materials and a One-Year Museum Membership; Contest is Part of 25 and Under Free Admission Program Supported by Qualcomm Foundation

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) recently announced the second annual 25 and Under Art Contest, inviting people ages 25 and under to submit their original art for the chance to win $500 in art supplies and have their work displayed at a showcase event at the Museum’s downtown location on Thursday, May 16.

San Diego, CA- The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) invites members, educators, and the public to a variety of events aimed to engage, educate, and inspire. Below is a comprehensive list of all MCASD programs planned through July 2013.

Highlights include TNT (Thursday Night Thing) on March 14, which will feature a live performance by artist Scoli Acosta, the West Coast premiere of Andy Warhol's San Diego Surf on March 16, the Second Annual 25 and Under Art Contest, and MCASD summer camp.

WEST COAST PREMIER OF ANDY WARHOL'S "SAN DIEGO SURF" AT MCASD ON MARCH 16

Film Released by and on Loan from The Andy Warhol Museum

San Diego, CA—In May 1968, Andy Warhol filmed San Diego Surf on the shores of La Jolla. It was only partially edited and never released—until now. MCASD La Jolla will host the West Coast premier of the film on Saturday, March 16 at 5:30 PM.

The film was recently released by The Andy Warhol Museum, and has only been shown at one other venue. It was screened at The Museum of Modern Art in New York in October 2012 and again last week (January 23-28).

MCASD TO HONOR DAVID COPLEY WITH A COMMUNITY FREE DAY ON JANUARY 31

San Diego, CA—On Thursday, January 31, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will offer free admission in honor of David Copley, the organization’s late board president and a long-time benefactor whose birthday falls on that day.

MCASD invites the public to both of its locations in La Jolla and downtown as a way to honor Copley’s vision of making art accessible to everyone and his interest in seeing San Diegans activate public spaces and take advantage of the arts.

San Diego, CA—On Wednesday, February 27, at 7 PM, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and UC San Diego (UCSD) will present its annual Russell Lecture at MCASD’s La Jolla location. The 2013 Russell Lecturer is internationally acclaimed artist Tania Bruguera.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO HOSTS LIFELIKE

Is It Real? International, Multigenerational Group Exhibition Asks that Question when it Opens at the Museum’s La Jolla Location on March 1.

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will present Lifelike at its La Jolla location from March 1 through May 27, 2013. Lifelike invites a close examination of artworks based on commonplace objects and situations, which are startlingly realistic, often playful, and sometimes surreal. This international, multigenerational group exhibition features artists variously using scale, unusual materials, and sly contextual devices to reveal the manner in which their subjects’ “authenticity” is manufactured.
