Focus on increasing access with monthly, after-hours offerings

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will enhance its evening programming in an effort to encourage more opportunities for audiences to engage with the Museum after normal business hours. On Thursday, November 19, the Museum will launch a new monthly after-hours program called Downtown at Sundown. In partnership with local business leaders and the Museum’s culinary neighbors, Downtown at Sundown will provide a sampling of Downtown San Diego’s Core-Columbia district hot spots, along with gallery tours, live performances, and more.

Three large-scale installations from the Museum’s permanent collection will be featured

San Diego, CAThe Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will present three large-scale works from its permanent collection by artists Robert Irwin, Ernesto Neto, and Judith Barry at its downtown location from November 20, 2015 through February 21, 2016. The installations will fill each gallery with immersive artworks that engage viewer’s experience of physical space, light, and sound.

Kathryn Kanjo served as Museum’s Chief Curator from 2010-2015

San Diego, CA—Earlier this summer, Hugh M. Davies, The David C. Copley Director & CEO, named Kathryn Kanjo the Deputy Director, Art and Programs.

Exhibition to highlight private art collections of San Diego residents

Museum Day will be celebrated on May 18, 2015 with free Museum admission and special programming for college students

San Diego, CA—MCASD will offer free admission and programming for local college students on Monday, May 18, 2015 as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day, coinciding with International Museum Day on Monday, May 18. Last year, MCASDalong with 180 other AAMD member museums across North America—participated in Art Museum Day.
