San Diego, CA—The Museumof Contemporary Art San Diego’s (MCASD) Board of Trustees voted today to appoint Kathryn Kanjo as The David C. Copley Director and CEO, effective October 18, 2016, the Museum’s 75th anniversary. The Board also voted to install Dr. Paul Jacobs as the next Board President, succeeding current President Matthew Strauss. Jacobs is the Executive Chairman and former CEO of QUALCOMM, Inc.

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will host the 10th biennial Art Auction at its La Jolla location at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, May 18. This year’s growing list of carefully selected artworks have been donated from artists and galleries both locally and internationally. This biennial event is the Museum’s largest fundraiser, providing vital support for educational programs, exhibitions, and art acquisitions.

Winner will receive $500 to Blick Art Materials and a private, curator-led tour of the exhibition of their choice

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is pleased to launch its fifth annual art competition for younger artists. The anticipated “25 and Under Art Contest” celebrates the Museum’s ongoing commitment to young audiences. Since 2007, a grant from Qualcomm Foundation has provided year-round free admission for all visitors ages 25 and under with the aim of making MCASD open and accessible to all of the creative minds of our future. To date, the program has served more than 100,000 visitors age 25 and younger, free of charge.

Long-standing collaboration brings internationally acclaimed artist to San Diego

San Diego, CA—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) and The San Diego Museum of Art will present internationally renowned photographer Sebastião Salgado as the featured speaker for the 16th annual Axline Lecture on Thursday, February 25, at 7 PM at The San Diego Museum of Art. This lecture coincides with an exhibition of works by Salgado from the collections of MCASD, The San Diego Museum of Art, and the Museum of Photographic Arts. The exhibition will be on view at The San Diego Museum of Art from February 20 through May 17, 2016.

West coast debut of artist’s first major solo exhibition in U.S. in over a decade

San Diego, CAThe Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will fill its Downtown location with works by artist Do Ho Suh from March 18, 2016 through July 4, 2016. Do Ho Suh was originated by The Contemporary Austin, and arrives in San Diego following its showing at Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland. This solo exhibition features work ranging from large-scale architectural installations and sculptures, to works on paper and video.

Artists Edgardo Aragón and Itzel Martinez will work directly with program participants

San Diego, CASan Diego teens involved in MCASD’s 2015-2016 Teen Advisory Group (TAG) will have the opportunity to work directly with emerging artists Edgardo Aragón and Itzel Martinez to create a multimedia exhibition, in collaboration with teens from Mexico City, that speaks to the role of violence in both cultures.
