San Diego—The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) broke ground on its long planned for expansion project this morning at a special ceremony led by MCASD’s David C. Copley Director and CEO Kathryn Kanjo, Board President Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, and Founding Principal of Selldorf Architects, Annabelle Selldorf. Congressman Scott Peters, San Diego City Council President Pro Tem Barbara Bry, Assemblyman Todd Gloria, and Supervisor Ron Roberts were all in attendance to celebrate another milestone in this important civic project.

Groundbreaking Ceremony to be Held Oct. 18

On October 18, 2018, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will break ground on its highly anticipated $95M expansion project in La Jolla.

This momentous event will be led by the Museum’s David C. Copley Director and CEO Kathryn Kanjo, Board President Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, and Founding Principal of Selldorf Architects Annabelle Selldorf. MCASD Trustees and Capital Campaign supporters will be in attendance.

San Diego, CA— On Thursday, September 20, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego opened a new exhibition, Being Here with You/ Estando aquí contigo: 42 Artists from San Diego and Tijuana. Highlighting distinctive practices shaping conversations and communities in our binational region and beyond, the exhibition brings together work by 42 artists and collectives living and working in the San Diego and Tijuana region. The exhibition will remain on view through February 3, 2019.

The Museum’s most significant fundraiser of the year will be held at the home of Iris and Matthew Strauss

San Diego, CA—TheMuseum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will host its 42nd annual Monte Carlo gala, themed “An Art Affair,” from 6:30 to 11:30 PM on Saturday, September 8, 2018. The event will be held at the private Rancho Santa Fe home of devoted arts patrons and ARTnews Top 200 Art Collectors, Iris and Matthew Strauss. The couple’s 21,000 square-foot estate, Rancho del Arte, is filled with hundreds of works by internationally recognized artists from the 1980s to the present.

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will present two solo exhibitions at its downtown location this spring. Yve Laris Cohen: Meeting Ground and Sadie Barnette: Dear 1968,… will open on Thursday, April 19, during the Museum’s popular monthly program, Downtown at Sundown. The new exhibitions will remain on view through September 2, 2018.

San Diego, CA—National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Jane Chu has approved more than $25 million in grants as part of the NEA’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2018.  Included in this announcement is an Art Works grant of $25,000 to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego for the Extended School Partnership (ESP) program.
