MCASD ANNOUNCES A CALL FOR WALLS

Opportunity for downtown building owners to be a part of the exhibition Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego is looking for sites in the downtown San Diego area that can be used by artists -- featured in the upcoming exhibition Viva la Revolución: A Dialogue with the Urban Landscape -- to create murals and other site-specific works on exterior building walls.

This is the public’s chance to experience the art of renowned, international artists as well as contribute to the enhancement of San Diego’s urban landscape.

MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO TO HOST BENEFIT ART AUCTION APRIL 21, 2010 AT ITS LA JOLLA LOCATION

Works by John Baldessari, Christo, Manny Farber, Ryan McGinness, Nancy Rubins, Ed Ruscha, among others, to be up for bid

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will host its seventh Benefit Art Auction at the La Jolla location (700 Prospect Street) on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 6:30 pm. The benefit auction, one of MCASD’s most popular and exciting events, features a live and silent auction of artworks by both internationally recognized artists and emerging contemporary artists. August O. Uribe, Senior Vice President of Sotheby’s New York, will preside as auctioneer. Funds raised will help support MCASD’s art acquisitions and future exhibitions.

CONTEMPORARY COLLECTORS CELEBRATE 25 YEARS OF SUPPORTING THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART SAN DIEGO

Three new exhibitions on view now in La Jolla showcase collection highlights in celebration of the silver anniversary of the Museum’s Contemporary Collectors support group

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) celebrates the 25th anniversary of its Contemporary Collectors donor group with three new exhibitions—all featuring works from its collection—now on view at its La Jolla location.



In 1985, a handful of passionate collectors began a donor group to support acquisitions at MCASD. From this auspicious beginning, the Contemporary Collectors have grown to become MCASD’s most successful and important support group, along with its sibling group, the International Collectors (founded in 2000).

MCASD ANNOUNCES NEW QUALCOMM GRANT TO CONTINUE FREE ADMISSION FOR THOSE AGES 25 AND UNDER

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego proudly announces Qualcomm’s continued sponsorship of the 25 and under free admission program for another two years. Thanks to this generous support, all MCASD locations—downtown San Diego (Joan and Irwin Jacobs Building and 1001 Kettner) and La Jolla—will continue this policy.

MCASD AND UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN DIEGO LIBRARIES FORM PARTNERSHIP

Students, Faculty, Curators, and Others to Benefit from Transfer of Resources, Access Agreement

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the University of California, San Diego have formed an innovative new partnership that will expand student and faculty access to more than 8,000 visual art catalogues and related materials, and provide MCASD curatorial staff with access to the vast holdings of the UC San Diego Libraries, the largest academic library system south of Los Angeles.

HEARST FOUNDATIONS GRANT AWARD FOR YOUTH EDUCATION PROGRAMS AT MCASD

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has received a grant of $75,000 in support of youth education programs, awarded by The Hearst Foundations. Among the programs benefiting from this grant are MCASD’s Teen Art Council and teen programs, school programs including MCASD After School, and the touring programs led by MCASD Gallery Guides.

San Diego, CA— The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) will present an exhibition of sculptural installations by artist Tara Donovan at its downtown Jacobs Building location from October 25, 2009 through February 28, 2010. Organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, this is the first major museum survey of Donovan’s work, and MCASD is the only West Coast venue for the exhibition.

San Diego, CA--On Thursday, November 5, 2009, TNT (Thursday Night Thing) returns to the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego's downtown location with a dynamic evening of live music, art-making activities, and interactive performances themed around the new exhibition, Tara Donovan. Opening October 25, this is the first major museum survey of artist Tara Donovan's work. MCASD is the only West Coast venue to present this traveling exhibition, organized by the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston.
