Most Ambitious Exhibition in Museum’s History Now on View at MCASD Downtown; Opens to the Public in La Jolla on September 25

San Diego, CA—The countdown begins. In less than one month, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego will open its most ambitious exhibition to date, which includes a robust menu of engaging programming for visitors and members.

While September 25 marks the official opening of Phenomenal, the Museum installed its downtown galleries in July and August, allowing visitors to get a partial viewing of the exhibition, see select installations in progress, and hear from the artists, curators, and preparators.

Artist Spencer Finch will Evoke Ancient Rome with Site-specific Installation in MCASD La Jolla’s Axline Court

San Diego, CA—At once grand and subtle, Spencer Finch’s light-based installations bridge an actual locale with a recalled memory. This fall, Finch will evoke ancient Rome in seaside La Jolla with a reference to architecture of the Italian Pantheon. Rome (Pantheon, noon, June 14, 2011) will be on view at MCASD La Jolla from September 25, 2011-January 22, 2012.

Annual short-film festival, presented by MCASD and Muse Chasers, returns to La Jolla

San Diego, CA--On Thursday, August 25, 2011 from 7-10 PM, San Diego's premier short-film showcase alt.pictureshows returns to MCASD La Jolla (700 Prospect Street). Curated by filmmaker and MCASD Film Curator Neil Kendricks, the ninth annual alt.pictureshows features 17 smart and provocative short films that will delight, engage, and challenge moviegoers. The one-night-only event is $5 general admission and free to MCASD Members.

From San Diego to LA and Paris, and Back Again: La Jolla Natives to Operate Shop in Collaboration with MCASD

San Diego, CA—On August 4, 2011, a unique pop-up shop will open at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego’s downtown location. Product Porch is a six-month retail experiment that will serve as a destination for new design and creative retail in San Diego.

A collaboration between MCASD and successful design retailers Brooks Hudson Thomas and Blaire Dessent, Product Porch will offer accessories, functional objects, and furniture made by a new generation of creative talents from all over the world.
