$750,000 Largest Award in California and only San Diego Recipient

San Diego, CA— The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announced $30.9 million in grants to support 188 humanities projects in 45 states and the District of Columbia. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) was selected to receive an Infrastructure and Capacity Building Challenge grant of $750,000 in federal matching funds. These funds will support construction expenses for the expansion of the museum’s La Jolla campus, creating capacity for display of the permanent collection alongside temporary exhibitions.

México quiero conocerte: Photographs by Graciela Iturbide and Manuel Álvarez Bravo and Bound to the Earth: Art, Materiality, and the Natural World will both open on the evening of Thursday, November 21, at the Museum’s monthly free program, Downtown at Sundown. Themed “An Art Affair II,” the event will be held at the private Rancho Santa Fe home of devoted arts patrons and ARTnews top 200 art collectors, Iris and Matthew Strauss.

WHAT: Eccentricity Has Room: Artists from the MFA Program UC San Diego presents the 13 graduating artists from the UC San Diego Department of Visual Arts Master of Fine Arts program, whose works represent a range of critical investigations that turn inward, grappling with the schisms between lived and perceived experience. Seen together, these works reflect not only the cultivation of their individual practices, but also the community and camaraderie that they built along the way.
