Job Summary: 

Provide both SSR and SSR Lead duties from 10:30 AM-7 PM on Mondays and Tuesdays. Responsible for assisting the Security Manager and/or Security Supervisor in their duties while they are absent or when additional SSR staff is needed.  Ensure the safety and security of MCASD staff, visitors, VIP guests, and the physical building.  Monitor and enforce MCASD policies in order to safeguard the collection from damage or theft.  Make appropriate business decisions under various safety, security, and emergency-related situations as needed.  Provide exceptional customer service to all members of the MCASD organization and enhance the museum visitor experience.  Support mission and vision of Museum throughout performance of duties.

Essential Functions: 
  • Perform interior patrols of museum galleries.
  • Ensure museum visitors adhere to company policy to preserve the collection and prevent theft or damage.
  • Ensure that daily security patrols are performed properly.
  • Impart knowledge of museum exhibits, events, and of the surrounding area to patrons.
  • Respond to any emergency events (e.g. medical emergencies, natural disasters, etc.).
  • In absence of supervisor or manager, serve as primary escalation point to resolve any customer service issues or violations of MCASD policies or procedures related to safety and security.
  • Conduct open and close procedures, alarm system operation, and access control/key control policy.
  • Maintain professional demeanor with public and within organization.
  • Ability to promptly respond to and address emergency situations displaying appropriate sense of urgency for each situation. 
  • Ensure prompt resolution and corrective action of any noted deficiencies received through standard reporting processes.
  • Perform internal and external patrols of museum and galleries and/or act as lead to assigned Security Service Representatives on duty. 
  • Provide escort to vehicles as needed.
  • Ensure safe work environment through knowledge of and adherence to Museum safety policies and procedures. 
  • Flexibility to work alternate, part time, or special event shifts, including weekends and/or after hours. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 

Strong customer service and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with tact, diplomacy, and professional demeanor with all museum clientele, VIP guests, visitors, and museum employees.  Ability to maintain professional composure while carrying out the duties of the position.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Good technical skills with a proficiency in MS Office.  Ability to perform crowd control and provide clear guidance and direction.  Strong attention to detail.  Ability to work with minimal supervision.  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make on-the-spot decisions under pressure.  High school diploma and three years recent, relevant experience or any equivalent education and experience.  Lead experience preferred.  Prior museum and/or art related experience preferred. 

Physical Requirements

Ability to see and listen for extended periods.  Ability to speak.  Ability to remain in a standing position, walk, and walk briskly for extended periods.  Ability to run for short periods of time.  Ability to climb stairs, stoop, and kneel.  Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull, exerting up to 10 pounds or a negligible amount occasionally or otherwise move objects, including the human body. 

Special Licensing

Must possess and maintain BSIS Security Guard Card.

Background Checks and Training

Criminal background check. 

CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to obtain through MCASD-provided training.
