Hours Per Week:   A 4hr shift on the third Thursday of every month, additional hours as needed Thursday through Tuesday

The Engagement Liaison is the first point of contact for all visitors to the Museum.  This position will greet and direct all visitors and will administer admission and membership transactions, will be well versed in Museum programming and exhibitions, and will provide Educational information to our visitors.  Support the mission and vision of the Museum throughout the performance of duties.    

Essential Functions: 
  • Maintain 8-line phone system and transfer calls to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain professional working relationship with all Museum staff, Board of Trustees, the artistic community, membership, and MCASD volunteers.  Assist in co-mentoring Education and Engagement volunteers.
  • Engage with visitors, direct vendors, and appointments and notify Museum staff accordingly.
  • Perform all aspects of friendly customer service while at the front desk and at special events.
  • Maintain and stock front desk with informational brochures.
  • Provide membership information to visitors and execute sale of memberships.  Sell admission and event tickets.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures of front desk POS system.
  • Collaborate closely with Security team and Business Office.
  • Receive goods and mail upon delivery and ensure distribution to staff.
  • Communicate member and visitor needs to relevant staff.
  • Support research endeavors by conducting visitor surveys and observations.
  • Participate in scheduled Gallery Educator training sessions and become trained in all Educational programming; provide information to visitors about the Museums’ institutional history, exhibitions, and public programs.
  • Perform job while observing Museum’s policies and procedures.
  • Follow safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
  • A 4hr shift on the third Thursday of every month, additional hours as needed Thursday through Tuesday, including weekend days and holidays. Occasional evenings for special eventsor after regular business hours as needed, including quarterly Educational training typically held quarterly from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience: 

Strong customer service skills with the ability to maintain front-office demeanor and decorum.  Strong oral communication, interpersonal, and public communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of visitors, staff, and trustees.  Strong attention to detail and multi-tasking skills while working with on-going distractions and occasionally high-volume attendance.  Good written communication skills.  Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle situations with tact and diplomacy.  Good technical skills with a proficiency in MS Office.  Good working knowledge of math to handle cash and produce reports using a POS system.  Degree in Art History or related field and two years recent, relevant experience or any equivalent education and experience.  Knowledge of and/or experience in contemporary art preferred.  Familiarity with gallery-based discussions that combine visual arts and art history focusing on contemporary art and utilizing visual thinking and inquiry-based learning strategies preferred.  Bilingual preferred.  Experience using Altru software preferred.

Ability to learn, comprehend, retain, and reiterate information.  Ability to see, listen, and talk for extended periods.  Ability to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods.  Ability to remain in a sedentary position for extended periods.  Ability to perform repetitive motions, making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.  Ability to use a keyboard for extended periods.  Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull, exerting up to 30 pounds or a negligible amount occasionally or otherwise move objects.
