In 1969 Robert Irwin had his second solo exhibition at what was then The La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art. Thirty eight years later in 2008, The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego was honored to present a comprehensive retrospective of Irwin's career spanning fifty years.

Primaries and Secondaries, one of the largest and most ambitious exhibitions of the Museum's history, also featured five new installation pieces created by Irwin. With essays by Robert Irwin himself and Hugh M. Davies, the David C. Copley Director of MCASD, this catalogue covers the exhibition and Irwin's diverse career as "one of the most influential and pivotal artists of our time"  Hugh M. Davies.

Featuring over fifty color illustrations and including a 19 minute DVD directed by Leonard Feinstein, this catalogue is a must-have for any Irwin appreciator or supporter of MCASD.
