$2,500 goes directly to purchase art that Members help select. The remainder supports the Museum's operations.
Join Contemporary Collectors this year and be part of the group's 20th Anniversary season! Since 1985, Contemporary Collectors has been a premiere donor group of MCASD. Chairs have included Dr. Peter C. Farrell, Mary and Jim Berglund, Victor and Gilda Vilaplana, Joyce Strauss, Joan and Irwin Jacobs, Sue K. Edwards, Iris and Matthew Strauss, Pauline Foster, Michael Krichman, and Sheryl and Harvey White.
The Collectors are individuals with a special interest in collecting and learning about contemporary art. They directly support the acquisition of works for MCASD's permanent collection, and participate in choosing these works at the Annual Selection Dinner. The group enjoys a series of programs, exclusive social events, and art tours around the United States, planned by Hugh Davies, The David C. Copley Director, and Curators Stephanie Hanor and Rachel Teagle. With the staff as guides, they gain insight and personal access to information unavailable anywhere else. It is an unparalleled group in San Diego, and both experienced and beginning collectors can benefit by participating.
Contemporary Collectors are invited to all upper-level Museum member events throughout the year-the annual Benefactor event, our Sunday Brunch series, lectures, tours, and much more! Collectors' names are listed on the Donor Board in the Jacobs Gallery in La Jolla, as well as year-round in VIEW, the quarterly newsletter.
