The people have spoken!

More than 4,200 votes were cast on Facebook, and more than 200 votes were cast in person at last week’s showcase event! We are pleased to announce the People’s Choice winners of the “Get Famous with the Greedy Organ” art competition. Click here to see images of the winner's artworks. In spring 2012, MCASD launched the “Get Famous with the Greedy Organ” contest for aspiring young artists. More than 100 entries were submitted, and 25 were selected as finalists.

Honorable Mentions for the People’s Choice vote go to the following entrants:

Grisel Marquez, 25
Natalie Damrau, 17
Sarah Nicita, 14
Aryan Seyedin, 16
Mia Salatka, 10

While we asked the public to vote for their favorites in the contest, we felt it wouldn’t be complete without offering some feedback from our curatorial team as well. Therefore, while no prizes will be awarded in this category, we wanted to share the “Curator’s Pick” winners.

First Place: Brandon Boggs, 20
Second Place: Arielle Loring, 16
Third Place: Lauren Millslagle, 23

Curator's Pick Honorable Mentions go to Theo Jurist, 11, Leo Handelsman, 6, Lauryn Allen, 15, Mia Salatka, 10, and Aryan Seyedin, 16.

Thank you to everyone who submitted artwork to the contest. We received more than 100 submissions and were impressed and inspired by San Diego's creativity. Last Thursday's showcase was a huge success and saw more than 200 contestants and MCASD supporters.

The Feed Your Greedy Organ campaign will continue in an effort to bring awareness to the Museum's 25 and under free admission policy, thanks to the Qualcomm Foundation. Please help us spread the word, visit the Museum often, and don't forget to bring your family and friends. For all you Greedy Organ fans, stay tuned. His appetite is ferocious and you never know when he'll return to challenge your creativity.
