Avant Garde is MCASD’s newest special interest group created especially for art enthusiasts between the ages of 25 and 40-something to network with artists, curators, collectors, and peers, while experiencing the best in contemporary culture.
As a member of Avant Garde, you will enjoy an exciting schedule of social, philanthropic, and educational events within the Museum and the San Diego arts community. Recent events included a tour of Kim MacConnel’s private studio in Encinitas, a curator-led tour at the Orange County Museum of Art, an exclusive TNT After Party, and the Summer Solstice Soiree, a communal dinner party set inside the stunning Jennifer Steinkamp installation at MCASD Downtown.

• Saturday, April 7 > Avant Garde members will have access to the working studios of emerging artists. UCSD Open Studios program provides a remarkable opportunity to observe the artistic process of current MFA students. The tour coincides with UCSD’s annual Visual Arts PhD Conference and a curated gallery show. As an additional networking opportunity, Avant Garde invites you to cocktails at a nearby restaurant.

Get an insider’s look at the 2012 Art Auction with special access to the artworks available for bid and the opportunity for private curatorial counsel. Funds raised at Art Auction will support MCASD’s acquisitions, exhibition and education programs.
June
• Saturday, June 9 > 6 PM > Members’ Opening of John Valadez. The artist John Valadez is widely considered the most significant artist to have developed a realist pictorial language recording the Chicano experience in Los Angeles during the 1970s, ‘80s, and ‘90s. Join us in celebration of the premiere of this wonderful exhibition.
• Wednesday, June 20 > Returning after popular demand, MCASD’s second annual Summer Solstice Soiree is back. Celebrate the longest day of the year with an evening of great food, delicious drinks, and contemporary artwork while benefitting MCASD! This year the Summer Solstice will include an exciting auction element with upscale design items and luxury goods.
