Strange New World: Art and Design from Tijuana/ Extraño Nuevo Mundo: Arte Y Diseño Desde Tijuana, the first comprehensive survey of the city’s burgeoning art scene, documents the recent explosion of creative vitality in the city of Tijuana, Mexico. The exhibition also explores the subtle shift in focus from art about the border experience to art that takes advantage of a new type of accelerated urbanism being pioneered in developing cities around the world.

Featuring 150 works of art made by 41 architects, artists, designers, and filmmakers, Strange New World presents work made in and about Tijuana over the course of the past 35 years. The exhibition is the first to be presented concurrently at both MCASD Downtown and MCASD La Jolla. Strange New World is complemented by a 250-page scholarly, bilingual catalogue and an interactive, bilingual Web site (www.mcasd.org/strangenewworld), which features the exhibition artists, a music player with 42 tracks from Tijuana musicians, and a downloadable, printable map of the city.
