Richard Wright, an artist from Glasgow, Scotland, created two site-specific works in the Strauss Gallery of the Jacobs Building during his August and September 2006 residency at MCASD. The first work is delicate lines in gold leaf paint on a large window between the Strauss and Farrell Galleries. The second work is a wall mural located high on the 30-foot north wall of the gallery with a small graphic image repeating across the wall forming a larger composition. The artist thinks of architectural walls and space in terms of a “skin” and is very meticulous in the methods and ways in which he works, in some ways analogous to tattooing. His is a slow process, much like the traditional painters of previous centuries, but with a very contemporary twist.
