OF THE MOMENT: RECENT ACQUISITIONS FROM THE PERMANENT COLLECTION

MCASD DOWNTOWN DECEMBER 14 2003 - JANUARY 25, 2004

PAUL MCCARTHY: POT HEAD, 2002, EDITION 6 OF 6, EACH PIECE IS UNIQUE, SILICONE RUBBER, DIMENSIONS VARIABLE, MUSEUM PURCHASE, INTERNATIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY COLLECTORS FUNDS.

One of the key aspects of MCASD's acquisition program is its responsiveness to art being made today. Of the Moment brings together work made by some of today's most promising young artists with celebrated early works by artists well established in their field. The juxtaposition of a recent self-portrait by South African artist Tracey Rose and the untitled photograph from 1982 by UCSD professor Barbara Kruger establishes the range and depth of the Museum's collection.

Drawn entirely from the permanent collection, and limited to works that have entered the Museum's collection during the last five years, the exhibition includes important works by British painter Jenny Saville, Los Angeles-based performance artist Paul McCarthy, Bay Area electronic artist Jim Campbell, Brazilian painter Adriana Varejao, and San Diegan sculptor Italo Scanga. Of the Moment acknowledges the vital assistance of the Museum's supporters and celebrates San Diego's flourishing collecting community.

Of The Moment: Recent Acquisitions from the Permanent Collection is made possible by contributions to the MCASD Annual Fun.
