MANNY FARBER: DOMESTIC MOVIES, 1985, OIL ON BOARD, 72 X 72 INCHES.

Manny Farber: About Face is a major retrospective organized by MCASD featuring the work of San Diego-based painter Manny Farber. The exhibition explores the work of one of America's celebrated film critics and highly regarded visual artists. Consisting of approximately 60 paintings and works on paper, the exhibition shows the development of Farber's work over a forty year period, demonstrating how his distinctive way of looking at movies and his unique writing style translate to his choices of composition, details, and color in his painting.

Manny Farber: About Face is made possible by generous support from Colette Carson and Dr. Ivor Royston, as well as the Lead Corporate Sponsor, Imperial Capital Bank. Additional funding comes from Barbara and Charles Arledge, Max Palevsky, Robert L. Shapiro, The Cowles Charitable Trust, New York, The James Irvine Foundation, and the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture. Manny Farber: About Face is organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and will travel to the Austin Museum of Art, Texas in the summer of 2004 and to P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, in fall 2004.
