FROM THE VAULTS: RECENT ACQUISITIONS
MCASD LA JOLLA
SEPTEMBER 17 – DECEMBER 10, 2006

LOUISE BOURGEOIS, EARS, 2004, DRYPOINT ON CLOTH, MUSEUM PURCHASE WITH FUNDS FROM PRIOR DONATIONS BY SUSAN AND FRANK KOCKRITZ AND MR. AND MRS. NORTON S. WALBRIDGE.

Highlighting recent additions to MCASD’s permanent collection, From the Vaults focuses primarily on works on paper, demonstrating a wide range of contemporary drawing and photography practices. The exhibition also reveals some of MCASD’s approaches to collecting. The Museum makes a priority of acquiring the work of emerging and local artists, such as Adam Belt and Ian Patrick, as well as the work of well established contemporary artists such as Louise Bourgeois. MCASD’s collecting also spans the globe—from Larry Sultan’s engagement with the culture of Southern California to David Goldblatt and Roger Ballen’s depictions of South Africa to Melanie Smith’s aerial abstractions of Mexico City.
