Twelve, a new video installation by Barbara Kruger, will open
this fall at MCASD Downtown. The installation addresses the themes of
power, society, culture, family, and relationships that have been integral
to Kruger's work since the late 1970s. Projected individually onto the
four walls of the Copley Gallery, actors in twelve ensembles carry on
conversations across the space. In conversations scripted by Kruger,
the actors speak in mundane settings that become the flash point for
suppressed
emotions.
Kruger is the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime
Achievement award from the Venice Biennale. She is a Professor of Visual
Arts at the University of California San Diego.
