Chicano Visions, a two-part traveling exhibition inspired and directed by film and television actor Cheech Marin, offers a dynamic introduction to the concept of Chicano and Chicana identity in the United States. Exploring the manifold contributions of American of Mexican heritage, Chicano Visions offers vibrant, illuminating commentary on social, cultural, and political life.
The first component of the project, Chicano Visions: American Painters on the Verge, showcases a wide variety of Chicano art. The exhibition features paintings by more than 25 artists, including Carlos Almaraz, Frank Romero, Gronk, Patssi Valdez, George Yepes, Rupert Garcia, Leo Limón, Margaret García, Raul Guerrero, and Eloy Torres. Dating from 1969 to 2001, the works present images of urban life and the Chicano experience. Ranging from abstraction to photorealism, the images convey the diverse values and self-images of Chicanos and Chicanas.

Chicano Visions was presented by Target Stores and sponsored by the Hewlett-Packard Company. The MCASD presentation was made possible by a generous contribution from Mary Keough Lyman.
