Teen CreateLAB: Collective Sound
MCASD’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) invites high school students to collect, collage, and broadcast the sounds of downtown San Diego with Cog•nate Collective, a bi-national arts collective producing work in and about the U.S.-Mexico border.
In response to the current exhibition, Margaret Noble: 44th and Landis, which incorporates an experiential soundscape, MCASD invited Cog•nate Collective to run a high school workshop to explore sound as an artistic medium.
Cog•nate Collective’s recent Borderblaster project, which takes its name from the title given to radio stations that transmit their signals at very high power between nations, transmits the voices of the various groups and communities at the San Diego/ Tijuana border crossing. Drawing inspiration from this project, Cog•nate Collective will lead teens from field recordings, to sound collage, to a group radio transmission that will eventually be accessible on MCASD’s website.
Following the workshop, participants are encouraged to stay and explore Margaret Noble: 44th and Landis.
This event is free-of-cost to current high school students and space is limited. Send an e-mail with subject line “Collective Sound” to firstname.lastname@example.org that includes your name, high school, and grade by Wednesday, December 5, 2012.
