The permanent collection of the Museum
of Contemporary Art San Diego, includes more than 4,000 works created
after 1950, representing all media and genres: painting, sculpture,
works on paper, photography, video, film, and installation. MCASD
is known for collecting works by promising emerging artists and
under-recognized mid-career artists, as well as by major figures
in contemporary art. Among the greatest strengths of the MCASD Collection
are minimalism and Pop art of the 1960s and 70s, conceptual art
from the 1960s to the present, installation art, Latin American
art, and art from California and the San Diego/Tijuana region. Many
works in the collection are the result of artists' residencies or
works commissioned for MCASD exhibitions. The Museum continually
seeks to enhance its strengths and to expand the representation
of artistic trends in its Collection in response to new developments
in art locally, nationally, and internationally. At the same time,
MCASD preserves, presents, documents, and interprets its holdings
for current and future audiences.
Applications for loans must be made as follows: at least one (1) year
before the exhibition opening date for international loans, and (8)
months before the exhibition opening date for domestic loans. MCASD
charges a $150 fee for the initial loan, and $100 per additional
artwork. Written loan requests should be forwarded to Anne Marie Purkey

La colección
permanente del Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de San Diego incluye
más de 3.000 obras creadas después de 1950 que abarcan
todos los géneros técnicos: pintura, escultura, trabajos
en papel, fotografía, vídeo, cine e instalaciones.
MCASD es conocido por coleccionar la obra de artistas prometedores
que están comenzando y de artistas no reconocidos a mitad
de su carrera, así como de figuras emblemáticas del
arte contemporáneo.
Algunas de las áreas
de especialización de la Colección de MCASD son el
minimalismo y el Pop art de los años 60 y 70, el arte conceptual
desde los 60 hasta la actualidad, instalaciones de arte, arte latino
americano y arte de California, en especial de la región
de San Diego/Tijuana. Muchas de las obras en la colección
fueron el resultado de los periodos de residencia de los artistas
o trabajos comisionados para exposiciones de MCASD. El Museo tiene
como objetivo constante el seguir fortaleciendo sus áreas
de especialización sin olvidar los movimientos artísticos
presentes en la colección como respuesta inmediata a los
nuevos desarrollos artísticos a nivel local, nacional e internacional.
Al mismo tiempo, MCASD conserva, presenta, documenta e interpreta
sus piezas para el público actual y futuro.
