Pasha Rafat explores the natural and artificial properties of light in Untitled (2003). Light, as it is emitted by neon tubes and recorded by a camera, is a major theme of Rafat’s sculpture and photography. Although it is easy to get lost in the astonishing detail of his large-scale pieces, the particularities of individual works are subordinated to the overall effect, what he calls the ambiance, of his installation. This atmosphere, a particularly ineffable quality, is the subject of his art.
