X STORE REPRESENTATIVE

JOB SUMMARY: Perform opening & closing procedures. Secure deposits and selected merchandise in locked areas. Perform daily and other periodic store maintenance: shelving, cleaning, restocking, and merchandising displays. Receive goods upon delivery. EVENT TECHNICIAN

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Contributes to successful production of events for our patrons.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Must have fundamental stage lighting, sound reinforcement, PowerPoint presentation, and other audio/visual experience. Experience working various special events required including lectures, concerts, weddings, film, audio/visual, various performing arts and receptions. An interest or knowledge of contemporary art and or performing arts a plus. Candidates must possess excellent customer service & communication skills in order to interact diplomatically with community members; deal appropriately with clients and vendors for event services Work is weekends, evenings and some daytime events, often on short notice. Moderate to heavy lifting. Transportation required.

GRAPHIC DESIGNER / PRODUCTION COORDINATOR

JOB SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager of Graphic Design, design and produce high-quality printed materials, exhibition graphics, building signage, and design for electronic distribution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Understand MCASD graphic identity and its application to print and electronic design
  • Manage project details and schedules with the various Museum’s departments and assigned project managers
  • Coordinate all steps of the production process with vendors
  • Pre-flight files before submitting digital jobs for output, alter and convert images when necessary, markup pages for pre-press, make comps, place hi-res art, and supervise printing
  • Identify and problem-solve issues of cost, scheduling, and quality
  • Provide additional support to the Manager of Graphic Design as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Great organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, high standards of quality in terms of design and production, and the ability to produce and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Design education and professional experience required
  • Minimum 5 years of print production experience, i.e. magazine publishing, design firm, advertising agency, or similar environment
  • High proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat required; preferably in a Mac environment.
  • Solid working knowledge of black & white, four-color and spot print production process
  • Must have car and be willing to travel within San Diego County as necessary

ANNUAL GIVING MANAGER

Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer

JOB SUMMARY: The Annual Giving Manager reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and is responsible for fundraising for various areas within Advancement, including managing the membership program and annual fundraisers. Key responsibilities include overseeing the administrative aspects associated with advancement operations such as gift processing and donor tracking processes.

Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the aptitude for persuasion are necessary to be successful in this position. Being results-driven with the aptitude for creative problem solving is a plus. The position is key member of the management team in the Office of Advancement. Supervises a full-time Membership Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and Stewardship Manager.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In consultation with the Chief Advancement Officer, develop, plan, and implement annual and long-range strategies to help the Museum reach its fundraising goals.
  • Manage a comprehensive plan to obtain specific goals for individual annual gift support of $1,000 and higher with a successful track record in soliciting for gifts for a similar institution; including the identification, major gift cultivation and solicitation, and stewardship of current and prospective annual Donors and Members.
  • Devise an overall benefits program for Members, including travel and educational opportunities. Work closely with the Education and Curatorial Departments to develop events and benefits particular to each membership level.
  • Plan, organize, and implement revenue producing major fundraisers, special events, and travel that advance the fundraising strategies. Fundraisers include the annual Monte Carlo gala and biannual Art Auction, which raises a significant portion of the annual operating budget.
  • Responsible for the overall maintenance of the Museum’s Raiser’s Edge database system including the entry, maintenance, and production of all Donor and Member-related data, gifts, acknowledgement, and membership renewal and acquisition.
  • Work closely with the Senior Communications and Marketing Manager to devise Member acquisition campaigns to grow the membership base, in addition to Annual Fund appeals and collateral materials for the department. Coordination of mailings may involve working with the graphic designer and outside vendors such as the mailing houses and printers. Strong project management skills desired.
  • Prepare written communications to major donors and prospects ranging from proposals and informational packages, to renewal letters, and acknowledgement letters. Maintain active level of written correspondence with all major gifts prospects
  • Responsible for the utilization of the prospect module of Raiser's Edge to track action as related to prospect cultivation and solicitations.
  • Provide donor assistance to any phone and written inquiries. Maintain personal contact and good relationships with donors, administrators, volunteers, and other constituencies. A timely and polite response to donors is imperative
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Advancement Officer.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Minimum B.S or B.A. degree and general knowledge of art history; interest in and knowledge of contemporary art is desirable.
  • Five to seven years successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising, preferably in a museum or higher education setting.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to build effective professional relationships.
  • Must possess knowledge of fundraising principles and practices and maintain a professional, polished demeanor.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work on deadline. Comfortable managing multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.

INSTITUTIONAL GIVING MANAGER

JOB SUMMARY: Senior staff position responsible for securing significant annual and special project support from institutional funders (government agencies, foundations, and corporations). Responsible for developing grant strategy and funding requests, conducting prospect research, and writing proposals and reports. The Institutional Giving Manager directs and executes cultivation and stewardship of government, foundation, and corporate prospects and donors, and supervises a full-time Grants Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITITIES:

  • Work with the Chief Advancement Officer to strategize and create annual and long-term plans to identify, develop, and implement fundraising initiatives aimed at corporations and foundations
  • Develop and implement an ongoing program for institutional support, identifying and cultivating prospects, developing annual plans and strategies, interacting with board members, donors, and others to meet MCASD's funding needs
  • Research and identify appropriate and likely sources of institutional funding; with the support of the Grants Coordinator, research proposal requirements and submittal deadlines and analyze data to produce appropriate donor cultivation and stewardship strategies for institutional funders
  • Prepare, write, and edit all major grant applications, with understanding of specific funders’ application guidelines; prepare timely progress reports and develop a timeline for projects
  • Work across departments with other Museum staff in order to determine funding needs, scope, and feasibility of projects; gather information, translate it into effective, persuasive proposals using sound program planning and budgeting; find funding opportunities that match with MCASD program needs
  • Acquire thorough knowledge and understanding of MCASD’s history, mission, goals, and programs in order to best shape grant applications
  • Meet annual fundraising goals by developing and implementing effective plans and strategies, identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and current donors
  • Review budgets of projects/programs for which funding is sought; transform them into the appropriate formats for specific funding agencies
  • Supervise Grants Coordinator’s preparation, assembly, and timely delivery of proposals and reports
  • Provide effective and thoughtful stewardship; maintain contact with grant-making organizations during their review of a submitted application in order to be able to supply additional supportive material
  • Work in close collaboration with the Communications team and other Advancement staff in terms of fulfillment of corporate marketing needs
  • Serve as lead for site visits; supervise Grants Coordinator’s coordination of participation of Director and other senior staff as appropriate, and preparation of support materials
  • Responsible for managing Institutional Giving expense budget and income projections; provide reports and updates to Department Heads, Business Office, and others as requested
  • Maintain good records; ensure that the institutional giving database is up-to-date; generate reports as necessary
  • Supervise MCASD’s advocacy with government agencies including authoring correspondence for the Director and Board in support of legislation or government action; work collegially with local, regional, and national cultural community on coordinated advocacy efforts
  • Work on diverse institutional projects and represent the Museum in the community as appropriate
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Minimum 10 years demonstrated experience as senior-level associate responsible for institutional fund development and/or strategic planning, with successful record of accomplishment and measurable achievements in grant writing, fund raising, and planning
  • Candidates should have demonstrated track record of securing five- to seven-figure gifts and grants from leading funding sources, including government, corporate, and foundations
  • Position requires a clear, imaginative thinker and a strong writer who is able to recognize and strategically act upon connections between grant opportunities and Museum needs
  • The successful candidate will be efficient, a self-starter, and demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Minimum B.A. degree in English, Communications, or Art History preferred; academic knowledge of and personal experience with contemporary art desirable
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively and persuasively; exhibit confident expository writing skills with a high-level command of grammar, style, and spelling
  • Proven experience in solicitation, stewardship, donor recognition, prospect research, grant proposal writing, gift administration, and development policies and procedures
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently, often working under the pressure of deadlines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Museum personnel across departments; with colleagues in the San Diego cultural community, and with program officers and staff at funding agencies across the spectrum
  • Sound understanding of accounting principals, bookkeeping, and budgeting; advanced skills in use of Microsoft Office Suite; must have demonstrated knowledge of donor databases and prospect research: familiarity with Foundation Center databases, California Cultural Data Project (CCDP), Grants.gov, and Raiser’s Edge are preferred
