Job Summary

The Hospitality & Events Department is comprised of four main components; being the primary support to Museum departments as they plan and execute events, generating income for the Museum by renting the Museum facilities for special events, overseeing the relationship with the Museum Cafe, and managing the Museum Beverage Services. This position is primarily tasked with ensuring that all events occurring on MCASD properties are executed with excellence.

Essential Functions

• Assist Technical Coordinator III with day-to-day equipment upkeep and Sherwood Auditorium maintenance.
• Responsible for set-up and operation of all Museum audio-visual needs.
• Acts as a House Manager and conducts all custodial duties for Museum and rental events in Sherwood Auditorium, Coast Room and all other Museum event space.
• Set up tables and chairs for events per the ground plan provided by the Event Coordinator.
• Ensure that events are in compliance with MCASD Policies and Procedures and effectively working with Museum Security to enforce the Policies when they are not being adhered to.
• Supervise caterer and all sub-contractors for rental events.
• Responsible, in conjunction with Museum attendants, for security of building and equipment and the general welfare of event patrons.
 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

This position requires a person with working knowledge of stage craft, carpentry, rigging, lighting and audio visual. Must have worked with various types of performance and special events including: lectures, film, video and slide presentations, recitals, concerts and receptions. Candidate must have ability to work well with general public and possess the ability to make managerial decisions consistently and under pressure. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact appropriately with high level donors and patrons is a must.

Typical Working Conditions

This position primarily works in the La Jolla location although frequent trips to downtown San Diego are a necessary part of this job function for events happening at the downtown locations. Must be able to work under pressure and interact pleasantly and professionally with clients . Must be able to work some weekends and evenings. Moderate to heavy lifting. Must be able to stand for long periods of time comfortably during special events. Transportation required.
